Challenging advanced learners with «New World» and «Open World»
How can English teachers support and challenge learners who are already highly proficient in English within the regular classroom? This practical workshop addresses this question by exploring strategies and tools that help advanced learners stay motivated while ensuring that the whole class remains engaged.
In the first part of the session, we will look at general principles and concrete examples – including selected AI applications – that can be used flexibly, regardless of the coursebook.
In the second part, participants will move from principles to practice. Drawing on the examples provided, they will explore how to adapt and extend units in ways that challenge advanced learners, such as first-language and near-native speakers.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have a set of clear, creative and adaptable approaches at their disposal to bring greater challenge, engagement and variety into their «Open World» and «New World» English lessons.
Kursinhalt
- Einführung und Input: Ideen und Strategien zur gezielten Förderung von first-language and near-native speakers im Regelunterricht (ca. 45–60 Minuten)
- Breakout Sessions: Die Teilnehmenden probieren Aktivitäten aus, tauschen Erfahrungen aus und sammeln weitere Ideen. Zentrale Punkte werden festgehalten (15 Minuten)
- Q&A und Feedback: Austausch von Erkenntnissen und praktischen Takeaways, offene Fragerunde (15 Minuten)
